A NIGHT of drinking at a popular bar on the outskirts of the city ended in tragedy after a man was fatally struck on the forehead with an unknown object during a heated dispute.
Police have arrested Peace Nyathi in connection with the death of Junior Moyo, who later succumbed to his injuries in hospital. Nyathi’s drinking buddy, only identified as Bheki, is still on the run.

Bulawayo Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident, urging the public to avoid violence, especially when alcohol is involved.
“We urge members of the public to solve their disputes amicably and avoid use of violence, particularly when under the influence of alcohol,” said Inspector Msebele.

According to a police statement, the incident occurred on 10 August at around 7:45 PM at Kensington Bar, a known watering hole just outside Bulawayo.
It is alleged that Nyathi and his friend Bheki were enjoying drinks at the spot when they became embroiled in an argument with Moyo. The reason for the altercation remains unclear, but witnesses say the exchange quickly turned nasty.

As tempers flared, one of the accused persons allegedly picked up an unknown object and struck Moyo squarely on the forehead. The force of the blow left him dazed and injured.
Instead of receiving immediate help, Moyo reportedly left the bar and went home, perhaps underestimating the severity of his injury. By the following day, his condition had worsened, prompting him to seek medical attention.

Sadly, Moyo’s life could not be saved. He died in hospital from the head injury, sparking a murder investigation.
Police quickly arrested Nyathi after Moyo’s death was reported, but his alleged accomplice Bheki has so far evaded capture. Authorities are appealing to members of the public with information on his whereabouts to come forward.
