HELL broke loose in Bulawayo when a drunken man threatened to turn his family home into a fireball — with his mother still inside!
34-year-old Tongai Brighton Chikanga from suburbs in Bulawayo shocked the court this week after admitting to threatening to set his mother and their house ablaze during a drunken meltdown.
Chikanga appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Evia Matura charged with intimidation, and pleaded guilty to the offence.

“Your worship, I had taken a lot of beer and it overpowered me. I’ve apologised to my mother. I was drunk,” Chikanga told the court.
But apologies weren’t enough to save him from the long arm of the law.
He was sentenced to six months behind bars, with two months suspended on condition of good behaviour. The remaining four months were swapped for 170 hours of community service at Queens Park Police Station.
On the evening of 8 April 2025, Chikanga staggered home heavily intoxicated and flew into a fit of rage, targeting his 58-year-old mother, Beauty Tendai Mutasa.
He allegedly screamed threats, telling her he’d headbutt her, then vowed to burn the house down — with her inside!
