HIGHFIELD-BASED social football team, Maflambo Boozers, say mental health issues among men are on the increase and can only be reduced through networking.
The team, which comprises professionals from different fields, has also been giving back to the community by donating foodstuffs to the vulnerable.
The team’s deputy secretary, Shingirayi Chichoni, said their team has played well in supporting initiatives which help men fight mental health issues.
“Our team was formed in 2002 with the objective of linking men for socialising and networking purposes.
“With the help of our secretary, Lloyd Chimuka, we push to fight mental health issues among men, and that can only be achieved through such social games.
“We have realised that if men are not occupied, they suffer more depression than women, and moments of socialising creates refreshing moments.
“We help and advise each other to abstain from drugs and crime,” he said.
He said the team derived its name from their lifestyles.
“It’s a team of flamboyant players and we always give back to the community, especially Chinyaradzo Children’s Home. We donate groceries for Christmas to the vulnerable.
“Social football has helped some of our players get jobs and they are now able to take care of their families through the socialising and networking session our games provide,” Chichoni said.
