A COUPLE lived through its worst nightmare in Harare on Wednesday night when armed robbers raided their home and raped the woman while her husband was trapped in the other room in Borrowdale.
The couple also lost cash and property worth US$16 550.
The family was awakened by some movements in the house, at around 3am, and saw two men, who were wearing masks, in the passage.
One of the robbers pointed a pistol and ordered everyone to lie down.
They tied the hands and legs of the husband, demanding cash, and stole US$9 350, a MacBook laptop, two ipads, four wrist watches and a handbag.
One armed robber was then left guarding the husband and the other one force marched the wife into the bedroom, where he raped her once, without protection.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the case saying the woman was escorted to Parirenyatwa Hospital for medical examination.
“Police are investigating an armed robbery and rape case in Borrowdale.
“The armed robbers raped one of the complainants and got away with a total of US$16 550,” said Insp Chakanza.
