A Harare man is on the run after allegedly raping his maid several times before promising to rent a house for her in a medium-density suburb if she kept the matter a secret.

The man (name supplied) is said to have raped his 22-year-old maid five times between February and June this year at his house in Greendale. The victim discovered in June that she was pregnant. Harare police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi said authorities had questioned the suspect at Rhodesville Police Station before he fled. “We have launched a manhunt for this man who disappeared in the middle of police investigations in a case of alleged rape,” he said.

“Preliminary investigations point that (he) is alleged to have entered in his maid’s bedroom on five occasions and had sex without her consent. Having realised that he impregnated the woman, (he) promised to rent a full house for her, but she turned down the offer and later told her parents.”

The parents reported the case to police.
