adminHIGHLANDERS are expected to parade their new signings among them young striker, Thomas Chideu when they clash with Chapungu in a friendly match at Barbourfields Stadium this afternoon.
The club’s chief executive officer, Ndumiso Gumede confirmed the young striker was now in their books and has been signed on a two-year contract.
The 18-year-old reportedly spent three months in England in 2013 on an exchange programme and reportedly attracted interest from Barclays Premiership club Sunderland after banging 34 goals in 14 matches for Oswestry School.
The former Prince Edward pupil was offered a place at the Shropshire school at the beginning of September in 2013. Oswestry has an exchange arrangement with Zimbabwe’s Prince Edward, where Chideu was doing his ‘O’ Levels.
Although his attachment with Oswestry ended mid-December in 2013 he was allowed to train with the Under-21 side of Leicester City until his return home a fortnight ago.
Bosso coach, Bongani Mafu is certain to use the match to assess some of the club’s new players who include former How Mine’s Edmore “Digo” Muzanenhamo, ex-Njube Sundowns, Monomotapa and Harare City midfielder Tendai Ngulube, and goalkeeper Liberty Chirava who was at Chicken Inn.
Players seeking to impress Mafu and make a return to the club are Marshal Machazane and Lindelani “Vice” Ncube as well as left back Julius Daudi.
A positive result is not likely to worry the coach as he is still assessing the players and trying combinations.
“In as far as fitness levels are concerned, we’re not yet there but it’s okay because we are in pre-season and we are still loading. Combinations are coming up slowly and we need more work on game displays which will afford us to work on things that we would have done at training like reactions and just putting into practice what we would have done,” Mafu said this week.
