CHAMPIONSHIP chasing sides Highlanders and Harare City will have an early feel of each other before their league match after the two sides were drawn to face each other in the semi-finals of the Mbada Diamonds Cup. Giant killers How Mine were paired against former Cup Kings, Caps United during the draw held in the capital yesterday.

According to the chairman of the competition, Tafadzwa Chiremba, the double chasing Bulawayo giants will play their semi-final match at Mandava Stadium while How Mine will return to the capital where they claimed the scalp of former champions Dynamos at the quarter-final stage.

“The Highlanders versus Harare City match will be in Zvishavane while the other semi-final between Caps United and How Mine will be in Harare,” said Chiremba.

The semi-finals have been set for the weekend of 9-10 November with the final set for the end of next month.
With the Southern and Northern Region teams separated, there is now a huge possibility of an all Southern or Northern Region final with Barbourfields Stadium the most likely venue.

To book their place in the semi-finals, Caps United accounted for Chicken Inn 2-1 in a match played at Ascot Stadium in Gweru last Saturday while Harare City prevailed 2-0 over an out of sorts Hwange at Dulibadzimu Stadium in Beitbridge on the same day.

The next day saw the country’s two biggest clubs getting into action with Highlanders pummelling Buffaloes 3-0 at Mucheke Stadium while the gold miners beat giants Dynamos 1-0 at Rufaro Stadium.

Winners of the lucrative tournament will receive $130 000 in prizemoney and a ticket to the Caf Confederation Cup competition with the diamonds mining company availing $110 000 subsidy for Caf participation.

Losing finalists will get $90 000 while the two losing semi-finalists are set to get $45 000 each. The four losing quarter-finalists each got $30 000.

Draw:
Harare City v Highlanders (Mandava), Caps United v How Mine (National Sports Stadium).
