ZIMBABWE Warriors coach, Ian “Dibango” Gorowa is expected in the country next week when he is set to sign his contract that has been crafted by his employers, Zifa. Zifa chief executive officer Jonathan Mashingaidze told Chronicle Sport earlier this week that Gorowa had not signed a contract with the national association but was working through a mutual agreement.

“We expect him sometime next week where besides preparations for the upcoming friendlies, we will give him his contract,” said Mashingaidze.

A former Black Rhinos and Dynamos player, Gorowa’s seriousness with the national team job has been questioned following his continued stay outside the country.

Gorowa, who took over from German national Klaus Pagels, who ironically spent more time in Zimbabwe than what the former Mamelodi Sundowns acting coach has been doing.

Gorowa is most of the time outside the country yet at this time he should be identifying players for the 2014 African Nations Championship set for South Africa.

The national team coach should be moving around various stadia in the country watching the local league games as well as the Mbada Diamonds Cup matches for it is where his players for next year’s Chan will come from.

His assistants Mkhuphali Masuku and Callisto Pasuwa  cannot be expected to be doing the scouting because they are club coaches who surely cannot leave their teams to asses  other clubs’ players.

There is need therefore for the Zifa leadership to reign in  Gorowa and make it clear to him that it’s either he stays put in Zimbabwe and carries out his duties or leave the post for someone else.

Zifa chief executive officer, Mashingaidze said Gorowa would be in the country next week, the question is, which players will he pick since he has not been around?  Warriors got a reasonable Chan 2014 draw but the  group stage matches will not be a stroll in the park for the boys.
Zimbabwe is in Group B together with Uganda, African Nations Cup finalists, Burkina Faso and Morocco.

All of these nations are also ranked better than Zimbabwe and that on its own is worrying.
The tournament, to be hosted in three South African cities, Cape Town, Polokwane and Bloemfontein between 11 January and 1 February next year, is the third edition of an event that was first played in 2009.

Chan 2014 draw
Group A: South Africa, Mali, Nigeria, Mozambique
Group B: Zimbabwe, Uganda, Burkina Faso, Morocco
Group C: Ghana Libya, Ethiopia, Congo
Group D: DRC, Gabon, Burundi, Mauritania
