Highlanders’ secretary Andrew Tapela confirmed that the team would go for an out-of-Bulawayo pre-season camp but could not be drawn into revealing the venue.
“The technical team has gone to inspect the pre-season venue and they will brief the executive during tomorrow’s meeting.
“The squad will be going for camp immediately after the BMC match which will be played on 5 February,” said Tapela.
Over 40 players, new and old have been attending Highlanders’ training sessions with the hope of impressing Kaindu.
Goalkeeper Arial Sibanda, midfield workhorse Eric Mudzingwa, Arnold Majaivana, the club’s 2011 top goalscorer Graham Ncube, veteran defender Innocent Mapuranga, Bruce Tshuma and Simon Munawa are some of last season’s players that are at the club.
Defender Lawson Nkomo has not been training due to injury.
Some of the players that were not at the club last season who are training with Highlanders include midfielder Mpumelelo “Makwee” Moyo who had trials at Moroka Swallows last year, veteran Danisa Phiri, Quelaton’s speed merchant striker Kundishora Chakanyuka, Bantu Rovers’ duo of Dumisani “Fazo” Ndlovu and Moreblessing Nyokanhete.
Soon after his arrival last week, Kaindu declared that he wanted to bring back glory at Highlanders.
“I want to treble my achievements as a coach. Of course, I played for Highlanders but there is a difference coming back as a coach,” Kaindu said.
Highlanders last won the league title in 2006.
