HIGHLANDERS members will next Sunday turn their attention from matters on the pitch to the club’s books when Bosso holds an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) that is expected to be dominated by financial accountability.
Coming just days after the second suspension of chief executive officer Denzil Mnkandla in three months, the meeting presents the club leadership with an opportunity to answer tough questions over the club’s finances at a time of heightened scrutiny.
Among the issues expected to generate the most interest is how funds donated by businessman Wicknell Chivayo have been utilised, with members set to receive a report from the Finance Committee.
The financial presentation is likely to be one of the most closely followed items on the agenda as members seek greater transparency over the club’s income, expenditure and overall financial position.
While the meeting is not directly linked to Mnkandla’s suspension, the recent developments within the club’s administration are expected to add significance to discussions around governance and accountability.
The EGM, scheduled for July 19, at the Highlanders clubhouse, will also usher in a new era in line with the club’s constitution, with members set to receive reports from the Technical and Development Committee and the Marketing Committee for the first time.
The technical report is expected to give members an assessment of the team’s performance, player development and the football department’s direction under coach Benjani Mwaruwari.
Meanwhile, the marketing report will provide insight into sponsorships, commercial partnerships and initiatives aimed at strengthening the Highlanders brand and improving revenue streams.
Reports will also be presented by the executive committee chairman and the board chairman before members deliberate on any other business submitted in accordance with the club’s constitution.
With finances, governance and accountability all under the spotlight, the EGM is shaping up to be one of Highlanders’ most significant meetings in recent years as members seek clarity on the state and future direction of Zimbabwe’s oldest football institution.
