HIGHLANDERSa Football Club has taken action to protect its commercial value by registering 10 trademarks associated with the 90 year old football club by giving vendors who have been reproducing regalia with the clubas trademarks a one month ultimatum to legalise their operations.
Bossolona, Tshilamoya, Cry Mantengwane, Amahlolanyama, Ezikamagebhula, Ngenkani, Highlanders FC, the club shield with the 1926 inscription, Siyinqaba and Bosso are the trademarks.
The clubas CEO Ndumiso Gumede stressed that those interested in continuing producing regalia with any of the registered trademarks must first seek clearance from the club to avoid prosecution.
a?We are giving all vendors a one month ultimatum to register with the club so that we know who is producing what for the club. For example things like umbrellas and caps, so that we get a return from the produce,a? said Gumede.
Those that donat take this serious will face the long arm of the law when they decide to sell or produce club regalia.
a?That means these are now registered trademarks which are internationally protected and anyone using these names to market his or her products without the consent of the club can be prosecuted,a? added Gumede.
Highlanders have in the past watched as individuals took advantage of the clubas popularity by making counterfeit regalia whose sale has not benefited the club financially.
