JUST a $1 note, faith, moment of weakness and lastly a supposed dream form the script of how a prophet was accused of allegedly raping his frienda��s wife.
Brighton Sibanda (32, ABOVE) a self-proclaimed prophet reportedly slept with his frienda��s wife last year while she was 18.
The incident only came to light this year when his friend (the husband to the complainant), allegedly claimed he had a dream which indicated that the two had indulged in intercourse.
With only his dream as a�?evidencea�? the husband probed his wife who later said sex did really happen a�� but it was forced penetration (rape).
A police case was then opened resulting in a trial. However, at the close of the Statea��s case Sibanda was acquitted by Bulawayo regional magistrate Chrispen Mberewere.
Magistrate Mberewere castigated the growing trend of married women who engage in extra marital sex and later embarrass their husbands by making false rape reports to cover their shenanigans.
Magistrate Mberewere said the womana��s evidence could not establish rape as her reasons for failing to resist, scream or shout are unconvincing.
a�?Her husband is a liar who invented a story about a silly dream in order to intimidate his wife to confess. There is no place in our law of evidence for dreams. The court is worried by the rising trend of married women engaging in stupid sexual scandals and embarrassing their husbands in the process,a�? the magistrate said before acquitting Sibanda.
Prosecuting for the State, Simbarashe Manyiwa alleged that Sibanda met the woman through his friend and intended to pray for her as she was having stomach problems.
a�?On 12 February 2015 Sibanda went to his frienda��s home intending to pray for the frienda��s wife but failed to pray for her as the friend was not around. He then gave the woman a $1 to come and receive prayers from his house,a�? said Manyiwa.
The court was told the woman proceeded to Sibandaa��s house where she was allegedly raped. .
