They badly need something to cheer their spirits and Kaindu gets a chance to get his team back to winning ways when they take on FC Platinum in what promises to be a tough BancABC Sup8r Cup quarter-final at Mucheke.
Kaindu, as honest a coach as they will ever come, concedes that the going has been tougher this season but credits the other teams for raising their game.
He has a point because even Dynamos, their biggest rivals, are five points adrift of their tally, at this stage of the season, when compared to last year.
Kaindu has a reason to feel that the football gods were against them when they lost to CAPS United last Saturday.
Milton Ncube’s sweet free-kick kissed the crossbar, with the scores tied at 1-1, and had it gone in, things could have been different.
Then there was that huge talking point of Leonard Fiyado finding the winning goal from an off-side position, something confirmed by television replays.
This means that another big game for Bosso in the capital has ended in controversy this season after DeMbare found an equaliser deep in disputed time added on at Rufaro.
Kaindu is hoping that his team can turn on the power against FC Platinum at Mucheke.
He believes FC Platinum could be a tough hurdle to overcome.
“This is a big match especially when you look at the calibre of the opponents we are facing,” said Kaindu.
“It’s a fact that FC Platinum are a very good side capable of winning against any team on any given day.
“So we will not take them lightly.”
The Highlanders technical team was also encouraged yesterday by improvements to their senior players Mthulisi Maphosa, Innocent Mapuranga, Milton Ncube and Ariel Sibanda who have been carrying knocks.
“It’s encouraging that all those players managed to train today and there have shown tremendous improvement.
“But we are still waiting for reports from the medical team to ascertain if they can play or not,” said Kaindu.
Highlanders are chasing their first BancABC Sup8r Cup title after the tournament returned this year with more at stake as winners will pocket US$120 000.
The runners-up will pocket less than half that amount as the sponsors have reserved US$50 000 for the team that reaches the final.
The semi-finalists receive US$20 000 and those that fall this weekend receive US$12 000.
There will also be individual prizes to be given to excelling players during the tournament.
