REPRESENTATIVES from Botswana’s ruling party, the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), have visited the Geo Pomona Waste Management facility in Harare to explore potential collaborations in green energy.
This visit follows a trip by Geo Pomona to Botswana in October, where they aimed to leverage Zimbabwe’s expertise in waste management and replicate its technological advancements in the neighbouring country.
“Following our manifesto promises, we have received several invitations worldwide, with Zimbabwe being one of them. We are here to explore collaborative opportunities between our two countries in green energy,” stated Mr Michael Keakopa, head of the delegation and UDC representative.
During the tour on Monday, Mr Keakopa said after compiling a report for the President of Botswana, Duma Boko, discussions will ensue between the UDC and Geo Pomona to set up a similar project in Botswana.
He said President Boko’s State of the Nation Address emphasised job creation and green energy as key initiatives for Botswana.
“We are optimistic that Zimbabwe will play a significant role in supporting the new government in this sector,” Mr Keakopa said.
Dr Dilesh Nguwaya, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Geo Pomona Waste Management, expressed gratitude for the continuity shown by Botswana’s new government.
“I am pleased that the new government is continuing our negotiations from the previous administration,” he said.
“As Geo Pomona, we are ready to collaborate and provide innovative solutions to the government of Botswana, supporting their mission in waste management.”
