Bowlers scoop gold in Botswana

ZIMBABWE finally scooped a gold medal at the Africa States Bowls tournament which ends this afternoon at the Jwaneng greens in Botswana.The women’s Trips walked tall after beating some of the stronger sides in tough conditions.

Zimbabwe took first place with five points with a shot difference of 19.

Hosts Botswana settled for second place on five points but with a lower shot difference of six while South Africa got a bronze on four points.

The Trips side was represented by Kerry Craven, Heather Singleton and Ally Dale.

On their way to glory Zimbabwe beat Swaziland 13-9 and also peeled 12- 12 against Botswana.

While the Zimbabwe Trips were celebrating victory, their Pairs side, represented by Jane Rigby and Lynn Bishop, found the going tough as they could not record points.  Zimbabwe men’s side (Fours team) also had a chance of clinching gold as they had already acquired eight points after winning all their fixtures.  In the Singles Zimbabwe representative Terry Bowes was also in top form after winning all his matches.

Bowes could have grabbed a gold but his South African rival had a higher shot difference.
