Boy 10 drowns while swimming with friends

TRAGEDY struck in Buhera when a 10-year-old boy, Alpha Tavangwena, drowned in the Mwerehari River in Tavangwena village, under Chief Makumbe.

The incident occurred on April 29 while Alpha was swimming with friends.

Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident and said, Alpha and four other teenagers were herding cattle near the river around 5pm before deciding to take a swim.

Assistant Inspector Chinyoka: “Dzingirai Tavangwena, Alpha’s father, and other villagers attempted to retrieve Alpha but were unsuccessful. The body was eventually discovered floating on the riverbank on April 30.”

The incident was reported to ZRP Mburambinda Police Station.

Alpha’s body was taken to Murambinda Mission Hospital for a post-mortem.
