A SWIMMING expedition by three Odzi boys ended tragically after one of them failed to swim and drowned in Dani Dam last Saturday afternoon.
Confirming the incident, Manicaland police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa, said the late six-year-old boy from Village 25, Mt Zuma, Odzi, teamed up with his two brothers aged 12 and 19 years and left for Dani Dam to swim.
“When they arrived at the dam, the trio jumped into the dam, but the six-year-old boy failed to swim. His two brothers realised that he was drowning and tried to rescue him, but failed.
“They rushed home to inform Christopher Matova (27) who accompanied them back to the dam. They found the little boy’s body floating in the dam. Matova retrieved his body and made a report at Odzi Police Station,” said Insp Kakohwa.
Insp Kakohwa warned members of the public against swimming in rivers and also crossing rivers on undesignated areas.
He added that parents should keep an eye on their children to avoid such incidents.
In an unrelated incident which happened at Plot 145, Helbury in Nyazura, a 20-year-old man dived and disappeared in Vashco Farm Dam.
Insp Kakohwa said Daniel Mwamuka (20)’s body was later discovered floating in the dam.
