Boy drowns while swimming in river

Acting police spokesperson for Midlands province Assistant Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the incident occurred on Monday afternoon under Chief Malisa.
‘On the fateful day, the boy went to Mwembesi River in the company of his friend, a seven-year-old, where they started swimming in the flooded river,” he said.
Asst Insp Mahoko said the boy then drowned in the river after which his friend went and reported the matter at home.

“His body was later retrieved by elders in the village who then reported the matter to the police,” he said.
Asst Insp Mahoko appealed to members of the public to always monitor their children’s movements during this rainy season.
“Now that the rains are upon us and rivers would be flooding, we would like to appeal to parents to always monitor their children’s movements. They should also stop juveniles from crossing flooded rivers,” he s aid.

In an unrelated incident, a Kwekwe taxi driver lost his car and $25 cash to knife- wielding robbers.
Asst Insp Mahoko said the incident occurred on Wednesday night when the  three unknown suspects, hired Mr  Everson Dube’s taxi in the central business district pretending to be genuine passengers.

“After hiring Mr Dube they instructed him to travel along the Gokwe road. After approaching the 8km peg, they ordered him to stop the car after which they drew out knives and cut the seat belts which they then used to tie Mr Dube’s hands,” he said.
Asst Insp Mahoko said the three suspects who are still at large went on to dump Mr Dube on the back seat while one of the suspects drove the car with registration numbers, ABQ 7592.

“After driving for some distance, they pushed Mr Dube out of the car  and drove away. They went away  with Mr Dube’s Sonny Erickson phone and $25 cash which was in the car,” he said.

Asst Insp Mahoko said police have since launched a manhunt for the three suspects who are on the run.
“We appeal to members of the public with information which might lead to the arrest of the three to report to any nearest police station,” he said.
