A 16-year-old boy from Gweru’s Mkoba suburb allegedly killed his brother aged 25 in a fight while trying to restrain the elder brother from assaulting their niece.
The boy from Mkoba Villlage 15, appeared before Gweru Magistrate Judith Taruvinga recently for the initial remand.
He was asked not to plead and was remanded out of custody to 21 July.
The boy is being charged with murder as defined in section 47 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act, Chapter 9:23.
Prosecuting, Daniel Tafuma said on 29 June, 2014, the accused fought his late brother Rodwell Mashonganyika, 25.
He said Rodwell was assaulting his niece and the teenage brother moved in to restrain him.
It is said Rodwell stopped assaulting their niece and turned to the accused resulting in a fight.
Tafuma said during the fight, the accused throttled Rodwell who was pronounced dead on arrival at Gweru Provincial Hospital.
A report was made to the police leading to the arrest of the teenage suspect.
