A MAN was caught with a consignment of grenades in Bulawayo, which he allegedly intended to use to foment anarchy during a civil servants stay away today.

National police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the arrest of Henry Nyandoro and urged Zimbabweans to shun violence.

Police raided a house in Famona suburb, following a tip off and arrested a suspect last night.

Thousands of residents failed to report for work in Bulawayo today due to intimidation by rowdy youths who blocked vehicles from going to the city centre.

In the morning, hundreds of people had to return home after failing to get transport.

Violence erupted in Bulawayo’s Makokoba Suburb as unknown protestors burnt tyres and placed stones on the road to prevent free movement of vehicles and people.

The police’s anti-riot crew swiftly descended on the city’s oldest suburb with water cannon vehicle and teargas to disperse the protesters.
