MANCHESTER United have parted ways with head coach Ruben Amorim, the club has confirmed in a statement released today.
Amorim, who was appointed in November 2024, departs after less than a year in charge, having guided the Red Devils to the UEFA Europa League final in Bilbao in May.
Despite that European run, United’s league form has failed to meet expectations, with the club currently sitting sixth in the Premier League.
“With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change,” read part of the statement.
“The decision is aimed at giving the team the best opportunity of achieving the highest possible Premier League finish.”
The club thanked Amorim for his contribution and wished him well in his future endeavours.
Former United midfielder Darren Fletcher has been placed in temporary charge and will lead the team in their next fixture against Burnley on Wednesday.
Further announcements regarding the club’s long-term coaching plans are expected in due course.
