FORMER Highlanders FC, Bantu Rovers, FC Platinum and Young Warriors forward Mkhokheli Dube has described his appointment as assistant coach to highly rated South African tactician Thabo Senong as a dream come true.
Dube, who enjoyed a distinguished playing career, said joining the Highlanders technical team was both an honour and a challenge he was eager to embrace.
Coaching Highlanders is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious roles in Zimbabwean football. The Bulawayo giants are among the country’s oldest and most decorated clubs, having produced and housed some of Zimbabwe’s finest footballers, including Madinda Ndlovu, Peter Ndlovu, Bruce Grobbelaar, Honour Gombami, Zenzo Moyo, Joel Luphahla, the late Willard Khumalo, James Nxumalo, Tymon Mabaleka, Barry Daka and Mercedes Sibanda.
“It is a dream come true to be part of an organisation I hold dearly,” said Dube.
“Challenges are what make a job exciting and I am ready for the task ahead.”
Dube also addressed concerns surrounding his community side, Zebra Revolution, which competed in the Zifa Southern Region League last season, assuring stakeholders that the club would remain intact despite his new role at Bosso.
“There is a proper structure in place with a chief executive officer who will continue to hold fort,” he said.
Highlanders announced Senong as head coach and Dube as his assistant on Sunday night.
Senong becomes the first South African coach to take up a senior coaching role in Zimbabwe in 46 years, with the last believed to have been Trevor Macmillan, who coached Old Miltonians in 1979 and later Bulawayo Wanderers.
The appointment signals a new chapter for Bosso as they seek to restore their dominance in domestic football.
