RESIDENTS of Mutare are baffled by reports of a mysterious ghost bus that has been spotted driving around the city with no passengers on board.
The strange sightings have sparked widespread speculation, with some claiming that the bus is haunted by malevolent spirits.
According to witnesses, the bus is a white, new-model vehicle with tinted windows and a distinctive broken tail light.
It has been seen driving around the city’s main roads, including Herbert Chitepo Street and Robert Mugabe Road, often in the early hours of the morning or late at night.
“I was walking home from work around 10pm when I saw this bus driving down the road,” said Ms Tambudzai Moyo, a local resident.
“What caught my attention was that there was no one on the bus, not even the driver. I thought maybe someone was playing a prank, but then I saw it again the next night, and the night after that.”
Another witness, who wished to remain anonymous, claimed to have seen the bus driving erratically, as if the driver was struggling to control the vehicle.
“I was driving home from a friend’s house when I saw this bus swerving all over the road,” she said.
“I thought maybe the driver was drunk or something, but then I realised that there was no one in the driver’s seat. It was really creepy.”
Despite numerous sightings, no one has been able to determine the origin or ownership of the mysterious bus.
The local transport authorities have denied any knowledge of the vehicle, and the police have launched an investigation into the matter.
While some have speculated that the bus may be haunted by ghosts or spirits, others believe that there may be a more rational explanation for the sightings.
“I think someone might be playing a prank or trying to cause a stir,” said Mutare resident, Mr Innocent Sithole. “But at the same time, it is also possible that there is something more sinister going on. Either way, it is definitely got people talking.”
As the mystery of the ghost bus continues to unfold, residents of Mutare remain on high alert, wondering what other strange occurrences might be lurking around the corner.
