ZIMBABWEAN Premiership side Scottland FC have been confirmed as Kaizer Chiefs’ opponents for the 2026 Toyota Cup, in a major boost for the country’s football profile.

The announcement was made live on South African broadcaster SABC on Tuesday with tournament sponsors revealing that they see in Scottland “a club ready to take football to another level.”

The sponsors also expressed confidence that the relationship between Scottland and the South African giants would contribute significantly to the growth and development of the game in the region.

Chiefs have invited Scottland FC, home to former Amakhosi stars Khama Billiat and Knowledge Musona, to participate in this year’s edition of the pre-season showpiece. The match will be played at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in Rustenburg on 26 July.

The modern Toyota Cup is a pre-season, single-match invitational tournament hosted by Kaizer Chiefs in partnership with

Toyota South Africa. The competition is aimed at promoting African unity while helping participating clubs fine-tune preparations ahead of their respective domestic campaigns.

Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko lifted the trophy in the 2025 edition, while Tanzanian outfit Young Africans won the inaugural tournament in 2024.

Scottland’s participation marks another milestone for Zimbabwean football, with the club set to test itself against one of Africa’s most supported teams on a prestigious regional stage.
