Chipinge District will soon get a new state-of-the-art $120 000 brick moulding plant.
The brainchild of Deputy Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Dr Winmore Mlambo, the plant will be situated at Tanganda Halt in Chipinge West.
The plant is being shipped from India and is expected in Zimbabwe any time soon.
It has the capacity to produce 12 000 bricks per hour and two million standard bricks per day.
As of last week, land clearance had begun and some structures were already in place.
Speaking during the ground-breaking ceremony on Friday last week, Dr Mlambo said construction of the plant was expected to be completed by the end of this month.
“The plant is already on its way from India and we are expecting it by end of next month,” he said. “We have hired Chinese engineers who are coming to assemble it. We are confident that by end of this month the plant will be fully operational.
“The local authority has availed us land and the green light to commence construction work.”
Dr Mlambo said the plant would create hundreds of jobs for locals.
“Once commissioned, we hope that over 100 people will be directly employed at the plant,” he said. “There will be a lot of menial jobs than skilled manpower, hence it is the opportunity for locals to benefit.
“Locals, especially youths, will be given first priority once the plant starts operating. The project will change the lives of the Tanganda community as it will give birth to other projects.”
Dr Mlambo said the products produced were expected to beautify structures and improve buildings’ life- span.
Chipinge District Business Initiative chairperson Mr James Gabaza hailed Dr Mlambo for investing in the area.
“We are grateful for technocrats who invest and utilise local resources to benefit the indigenous people,” he said.
