A 29-YEAR-OLD Plumtree man allegedly raped his 14-year-old church mate after he offered her a lift. The girl’s brothers, a court heard, caught Simba Nzonzo of ZBS area in Plumtree “raping” her in a bushy area on Monday afternoon. The girl who is a Form 2 pupil at a local school later revealed to her family that it was not the first time Nzonzo had raped her.

She said he violated her on May 29 while they were on their way from church and had threatened to harm her if she reported the matter. Nzonzo appeared on initial remand before Plumtree magistrate, Mr Livard Philemon facing rape charges.

The magistrate remanded him in custody to June 29. Prosecuting, Ms Rose Sibanda said Nzonzo raped the girl on May 29 but she did not report the matter. She said Nzonzo was caught in the act raping her again on June 13.

“On 29 May Nzonzo met the juvenile who was walking alone from church. He offered her a lift. “Nzonzo went on to change the route and drove into a bushy area where he parked the car and locked the doors. He started fondling the girl and then raped her before driving her to her neighbourhood,” said Ms Sibanda.

She said Nzonzo warned the juvenile against reporting the matter. Ms Sibanda said on June 13 Nzonzo met the juvenile and offered her a lift while her brothers were watching.

She said the girl’s brothers suspected that something was amiss and followed Nzonzo’s car and they found the car parked in a bushy area where the two were having sex.

The brothers, the court heard, reported the matter to the police resulting in Nzonzo’s arrest.

Sibanda said the girl was taken to Plumtree District Hospital for inspection where results showed that she had been raped.
