BUBI Rural District Council has embarked on a road construction programme that will see the road that links the main township and Government offices being tarred at a cost of $300 000.
The road construction work includes the tarring of a two-kilometre road that connects the main township, the rural district council and district administration offices, while more construction work would be partly done on the traffic training centre.
Bubi Rural District Council chief executive officer Mr Patson Mlilo said the road construction programme started in mid-September and was expected to be completed by the end of next month.
“The road construction project is being done by a construction company called Asphalt Products. It was initiated in mid-September and our plan was to put tarmac on the two-kilometre road that links the main township and Government offices which are the rural district council and the district administration offices. Also, our project includes work on the district’s traffic training centre road. We expect the entire project to be completed before the end of November,” said Mr Mlilo.
Mr Mlilo said the project was jointly implemented by the local authority and the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara).
“The total money that has been invested into the entire exercise is $300 000 and 10 percent of that is coming from our own coffers, that is our own account while the rest of the money is a grant we received from the Zinara,” he said.
Mr Mlilo said that the main aim of the project was to enhance development in the district.
“The development is timely, this is a very big step in moving the main township forward and improved road infrastructure is one of the key priority areas of development in the district. The construction of roads will also attract the much needed investment to the town. Our main aim is to go beyond the two kilometres and further construct more roads in our area,” said Mr Mlilo.
