Bubi villagers commemorate belated International Women’s Day

Gender Reporter
SCORES of villagers in Bubi District on Wednesday gathered at Dromoland Primary School to belatedly commemorate International Women’s Day. The colourful event, which was organised by the Ministry of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development Matabeleland North Province, saw women from the resettlement community sending messages on women empowerment through drama, poetry, song and dance.

Senator for Bubi-Umguza, Medeline Bhebhe, read the speech that was delivered by President Mugabe at the national celebration of the day in March.

Speaking at the same event, the provincial development officer for Matabeleland North in the ministry, Dingane Dlodlo, said the event was designed to introduce the ministry and unpacking its programmes to the community.

Although there is no ward officer from the ministry in Ward 12, its presence has been felt in the area.
The ministry has unveiled 23 projects in Bubi ranging from mining to agriculture.

“It is the ministry’s aim to extend financial support to increase viability to projects and to enhance community economic sustainability. The ministry encourages projects to develop into businesses,” he said.
