Budiriro stands raise eyebrows

Out of the fully developed and partially developed stands (13 295), there are 23 786 sewer fitments (toilet chambers and urinaries) against 11 505 properties connected on the sewer mains.

This shows that a number of the connections are not paying the mandatory sewer levy of US$5 per month per connection prejudicing the city of US$61 405 every month.
A study by Harare Water to establish the number of water and sewer connections in the suburb revealed the low uptake and lack of development of the suburb. Harare Water wastewater manager and co-ordinator of the city’s 24/7 project that seeks to ensure round the clock water delivery, Engineer Simon Muserere revealed the results of the recent study.

Eng Muserere said only 42 percent of the housing stands (10 116) were fully developed while 49 percent (11 648) were not developed at all. Nine percent ( 2 096) were partially developed. Eighty-seven percent (20 696) of the properties in Budiriro are residential stands while 134 stands representing 0,01 percent are commercial.
