Buffaloes, ZRP in darts tourney

Champion of Champions tourney is an annual event whereby top two teams from each province represent their respective provinces. ARMY outfit, Buffaloes and police side, ZRP Chutsa Chutsa of Mutare will this Saturday represent Manicaland at the 2016 Champion of Champions Darts tourney to be held tomorrow (Saturday) at Munyathi Power Station in Kwekwe.

The two clubs will battle it out together with the other 16 teams from different provinces. Champion of Champions tourney is an annual event whereby top two teams from each province represent their respective provinces.

Manicaland Province Darts chairman, Joel Marime, said the two teams were ready for the national event. “Both teams have done their preparations so well and I have no doubt that this time round they will represent us well. As a province we have seen good performances all round.

“The men and ladies team are doing extremely good. In the past years we have not been doing well, but we have witnessed significant changes. We have not won anything as far as this tourney is concerned, but this time around we will bring the medals,” he said.

Buffaloes who also represented the province last year will be banking on the experience of former national team stars, William Mupfawa and Duwen Madire as well as the province’s top female player, Melody Gezana, while the police side depend on Trust Zambia and veteran star, Caleb Sigauke.

Zimbabwe National Darts secretary, Steve Mwarindira, said all the 18 teams confirmed participation and would be grouped in groups of four and five.

“All the teams have confirmed and are coming. They will be grouped into groups of four and five. The prizes are as follows. First round, 10 teams will be knocked out and they will get $200 each.

“In the second round, four teams will be knocked out and pocket $250 each, while in the third round which is the semi final, two teams will get out and awarded $300 each.

“The losing finalists will get $400 and winners $500, shield and medals. If the sponsors confirm there may be changes in the winning prizes,” said Mwarindira.
