FAILURE to withstand his wife’s sisters’ violent behaviour forced a Mutare man to approach Mutare Civil Courts praying for a protection order.

Abel Gowero appeared before magistrate, Mrs Anniah Ndiraya, praying for a protection order against his wife’s two sisters. He described them as abusive and destructive.

Gowero told the court that Rudo and Sinikiwe Mamvura were in the habit of disturbing his peace whenever they visited his home.

“Your Worship, these people are my wife’s sisters, but at the same time they are a nuisance as they always disturb my peace together with my family.

“Whenever they visit my place of residence, I end up quarrelling with my wife. At one time, my wife refused to give me food and I almost starved at my own house. She would cook the food and never served me. She would eat together with her sisters and if I enquired on what was happening, she would get mad at me.

“I now need the law to protect me because I am tired of their behaviour and I want them to be barred from visiting my place of residence,” said Gowero.

When asked to respond, one of his wife’s sisters, Rudo said she never insulted Gowero. She said he was the one who was in the habit of disturbing her peace as he at one time threatened to kill her with a knife.

“This man is lying because some of the allegations being levelled against me are lies. I never assaulted or insulted him. What I know is that I only visited his place of residence and his wife cooks the food, but she never served him. He later called me informing me that I am no longer welcomed at his house.

“He threatened to kill me with a knife. He went on to take some of my clothes, which include a skirt and a blouse. Before the order is granted, I want him to return my clothes and the money he owes me,” said Rudo.

However, Sinikiwe also had no kind words for him. She vowed to continue visiting him as long as he is still married to her sister.

Said Sininkiwe: “I will never stop visiting him because he is married to my sister. If I ran out of maize-meal, I have to ask for it from my sister and how will I do it. How will I get any assistance from my sister if I am barred from visiting her?”

Gowero dismissed some of the allegations, saying he never owed them some money.

Mrs Ndiraya granted Gowero the protection order, saying he was he was entitled to his peace.
