BULAWAYO-born South Africa-based cage fighter Elvis Moyo registered his sixth career win by knocking out Congolese Ricky Misholas at the Extreme Fighting Championship Africa (EFC) 50 held on Friday night at Sun City in Rustenburg. Better known as the Bulawayo Bomber, the former heavyweight boxer knocked out Misholas in the second round to register victory.
The victory over Misholas pushed Moyo closer to a title fight and the Zimbabwean fighter called heavyweight champion Danie van Heerden to the ring and challenged him to a fight. “That belt doesn’t belong to you Danie, it’s mine and I’m coming for it,” said Moyo, much to the amusement of fans.
He is banking on getting another fight in six weeks. “I stayed for six months without a fight because people chicken out to wrestle me. However, I must praise Misholas for being brave enough to fight me and now my focus is getting another fight soon.
“I can’t afford to stay another six months without trading blows. It is my hope that Danie van Heerden accepts my challenge. Hopefully he will be man enough to face me,” said Moyo. He said should he fail to get an opponent for the next EFC tournament, he would be forced to move overseas.
“If no one wants to fight me here, I’m ready to try overseas. I’m a fighter and I enjoy hitting opponents, but I have to put food on the table through fighting. Look, I’m famous but have nothing to show for it because most of the times I’m on the sidelines, as no one wants to face me.
“If fighting overseas is the answer to my problems, then I’m ready for it. I’ll ask my team to try and get me a fight overseas because I’m surely the undisputed champion here and I need to grow beyond EFC Africa,” Moyo said.
