Bulawayo Business woman caged for insulting and assaulting police officers

A 38-YEAR-OLD businesswoman from Bulawayo has been sentenced to 10 months in prison for assaulting and insulting police officers during a property attachment process.

Eunice Mlambo was handed the sentence, which was eventually reduced to six months, after the magistrate Ms Nomagugu Maphosa suspended four months on condition she does not commit a crimes of a similar nature in the next five years.

According to court documents, the altercation occurred in August this year when the Messenger of Court was carrying out duties at Mlambo’s premises.

It was reported that Mlambo insulted Christine Jhamba, accusing her of being involved in an illicit relationship with her husband.

Subsequently, she escalated the situation by physically assaulting officers Lynette Chigwende and Tendai Mazovere, who were trying to restrain her when the Messenger of Court was carrying out duties at her premises.

Mlambo is a co-director at Mlambo packaging that operates within Bulawayo’s CBD.

According to court documents Mlambo first insulted Jhamba accusing her of being involved in an illicit relationship with her husband.

She then proceeded to assault Chigwende and Mazovere, were trying to restrain her during the process.

In delivering the sentence the magistrate emphasized the seriousness of the charges against Mlambo and the need to maintain respect for law enforcement officers.

The reduced sentence with a condition of non-recurrence reflects the court’s consideration of Mlambo’s remorse and commitment to reform her actions in the future.
