THEY came, they sang and they conquered hearts. The Bulawayo Children’s Choir is proving they are far more than a fleeting sensation — they are a rising force in Zimbabwe’s music scene and they are here to stay.
Now preparing to release their fifth single, titled “Yizibusiso Zodwa” (Blessings Only), today, the talented young ensemble is venturing into gospel for the first time, delivering a message that is both powerful and pure: gratitude to God for His abundant blessings.
Produced by BMC of Play on Studios and accompanied by stunning visuals directed by award-winning filmmaker Rasquesity Keaitse of Keaitse Films, the track is poised to become a heartfelt anthem of praise and thanksgiving.
Choir director, Trevor Mawaka, shared that the inspiration for the song came from the group’s collective appreciation for divine favour and grace.
“Yizibusiso Zodwa is a song of gratitude and celebration. We were inspired by the goodness of God and the blessings we receive daily. The message is simple: give thanks and acknowledge the mercy and love that surrounds us,” said Mawaka.

The song made its public debut as a teaser at the Bulawayo Arts Festival Gospel Concert, where it received a standing ovation—an emotional moment that confirmed the group’s decision to release the track.
“That reception showed us we were on the right track. The audience felt our message, and it was heart-warming,” Mawaka said.
Behind the scenes, the creation of the song was as collaborative as it was creative. The children were not just vocalists — they contributed ideas, melodies and lyrics.
“We broke the song into manageable parts and let the kids bring their energy and creativity to the table. They needed to own the process —and they did! From rehearsals to the final recording, their input shaped the soul of this song.”
Mawaka also praised Rasquesity Keaitse for capturing the essence of the track on camera, saying his direction brought Yizibusiso Zodwa vividly to life.
Looking ahead, Mawaka revealed that this release is just the beginning. The choir is planning more music drops, collaborations and national performances.
“We’re working with some exciting artistes and looking to take our music across Zimbabwe. Our mission is clear: to nurture young talent and give them a platform to shine.”
Formed in December 2024, the Bulawayo Children’s Choir is a multi-genre group that has already shared stages with stars like Mzoe 7, Thandy Dhlana, Butholezwe Ntini, Novuyo Seagirl and Thaluso the Poet. With five singles already under their belt, this vibrant group of young singers is just getting started.
