THE Bulawayo City Council is scouting for a director of engineering services to fill the gap left by the late Engineer Simela Dube who died last December.
Dube died at Mater Dei Hospital on December 30 last year.
He had joined the local authority in 1984 as a student engineer.
In a statement on Wednesday, the local authority gave a job summary of the director of engineering services.
“(The director of engineering services) Assumes full management responsibility for all engineering services department functions, programmes and operations. Formulates and implements departmental goals, objectives and priorities. Evaluates departmental methods and procedures.
Develops and administers the department budget and approves expenditures. Attends and participates in professional group meetings and stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of engineering. Responds to difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints.
Assesses and monitors work load, administrative and support systems and internal reporting relationships,” read the statement.
BCC unpacked the responsibilities, qualification requirements and the required skills and experience that applicants must posses.
“The qualification, experience and skills requirements include a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering obtained from a reputable institution, Master of Science in Engineering or equivalent, must be a corporate member of a recognised Engineering Institution and a clean class 4 drivers’ licence.
“At least 10 years’ experience in local government or similar environment. Must have sound knowledge of the management of roads, potable water and sewage effluent in conformity with existing legislation. Must display a high degree of creativity, innovation and integrity,” read the statement.
Applicants must, by 2 June 2022, have submitted envelopes clearly marked “Director of Engineering Services, along with a comprehensive Curriculum Vitae and copies of relevant academic/professional certificates supported by three professional traceable referees.
