THE Bulawayo Fire Brigade has been given a thumbs up by residents of Qalisa Retirement Village after firefighters averted a fire disaster that could have caused damage at the old people’s home.

Last Saturday, a fire broke out in a vacant area next to Qalisa Retirement Village in Suburbs.

A call was made to the Fire Brigade around 11.30am and a firefighting team was quickly dispatched to contain the inferno.

“On behalf of residents of Qalisa Retirement Village, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Bulawayo Fire Brigade for the prompt response to attending to the bush fire.

“Our residents are all elderly and some suffer from breathing difficulties. Your prompt action in getting the fire under control was a great value to those who suffer from breathing difficulties,” said Mr C.F Pool, the estate manager.

Bulawayo Mayor Councillor David Coltart said the Fire Brigade makes the city proud every week.

“Bulawayo Fire Brigade is quite remarkable and do us proud every week. Here is a letter I have just received from a local homeowners association – Qualisa retirement village – which speaks for itself.

“Thank you – Siyabonga – to our magnificent Fire Brigade for their prompt, efficient, steadfast, brave and courageous work they do week in week out,” said Mayor Coltart.
