A 29-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man has appeared in court for allegedly assaulting his older sister following a dispute over leftover food that she said was meant for her son.

Phillip Nkomo, of Thokozani Flats in Mzilikazi suburb, appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Abednico Ndebele facing a charge of physical abuse. He was remanded in custody to Friday.

Prosecuting, Ms Sibusisiwe Sithole told the court that on October 1, Nkomo and the complainant had a misunderstanding after he attempted to eat food that his sister had set aside.

“The complainant left some leftover food, which the accused wanted to eat. However, the complainant refused, saying she had reserved it for her son,” said Ms Sithole.

The court heard that Nkomo became violent and assaulted his sister indiscriminately, resulting in her sustaining a swollen eye and forehead.

She later filed a police report, leading to Nkomo’s arrest. The complainant was treated at Mpilo Central Hospital.
