HUNDREDS of people have gathered on Monday at the Matabeleland North Provincial Heroes Acre in Lupane for this year’s Heroes Day commemorations.

The commemorations bring together Matabeleland North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Richard Moyo, Government officials, service chiefs, traditional leaders, war veterans, families of departed heroes and heroines and villagers from across the province.

People from different generations, including young people, have converged at the provincial shrine to honour the men and women who made sacrifices during the liberation struggle and contributed to the attainment of Zimbabwe’s independence.

The provincial commemorations form part of national Heroes Day celebrations being held across the country to remember and honour the country’s liberation war heroes and heroines.

Families of the departed heroes have also joined fellow villagers, Government officials and other stakeholders in paying tribute to their loved ones and remembering their contribution to Zimbabwe’s history.

The commemorations provide an opportunity for communities to reflect on the sacrifices made during the liberation struggle and the importance of preserving the country’s history and heritage for future generations.
