A Bulawayo court has handed down a hefty 20-year prison sentence to a 61-year-old man from Upper Rangemore, convicted of the heinous crime of raping his stepdaughter, who suffers from mental instability.
Allegations surfaced that on November 21, 2024, at approximately 3PM, the accused committed a serious offense by engaging in sexual activity with his 24-year-old stepdaughter, who has a mental incapacity and is legally unable to provide consent.
The disturbing event took place within the confines of the family’s residence.
In an official statement on X, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said: “The accused, who is the stepfather of the complainant, allegedly assaulted her while she was sleeping, wherein he covered her mouth and nose, and proceeded to rape her.”
The NPAZ has called upon the community to join forces and take a strong stance against rape and gender-based violence.
