A BULAWAYO man, who was allegedly found with 12 sachets of dagga, yesterday appeared in court facing charges of unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.
Tatenda Taputai (27) of New Lobengula suburb, who pleaded not guilty before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Archie Wochiwunga, was remanded to July 17 for continuation of trial.
Prosecuting, Mr Tafara Dzimbanhete told the court that Taputai was arrested on April 10 this year by police officers, who were on patrol in New Lobengula suburb.
“Police officers spotted the accused at his residence surrounded by a group of young boys. He was holding a plastic bag, which raised the officers’ suspicions,” said Mr Dzimbanhete.
When he saw the police officers approaching,Taputai allegedly hurried into his house leaving the gate open. The police officers followed him inside, identified themselves and informed him that they intended to search the premises.
“During the process, Taputai dropped the plastic bag he was holding and the police officers took it and recovered 12 sachets of dagga,” said Mr Dzimbanhete.
When questioned, Taputai admitted to selling the dagga to the boys leading to his arrest, the court heard. However, in court, the accused pleaded ignorance, claiming he did not know the contents of the plastic bag.
