A 26-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for raping his neighbour’s 12-year-old daughter.
Mduduzi Sibanda of Sunninghill suburb was convicted of rape by Bulawayo regional magistrate Mr Lungile Ncube.
Prosecuting, Ms Rumbidzai Gwishiri told the court that on August 16, Sibanda met the complainant at a tuckshop in Sunninghill and offered to escort her home.
The court heard that along the way, Sibanda diverted to his house on the pretext of dropping off groceries.
“Once inside the house, Sibanda dragged the girl into his bedroom, pushed her onto the bed and raped her,” said Ms Gwishiri.
A report was made to the police, leading to Sibanda’s arrest. The girl was subsequently taken to hospital for medical examination.
