A BULAWAYO motor spares shop has been fined US$300 for selling counterfeit oil filters bearing forged registered trademarks.
Covenant Motor Spares Private Limited, represented by Bongisani Ngwenya, was convicted of importing, selling and trading goods bearing forged registered trademarks in contravention of Section 85(1), as read with Section 96 of the Trade Marks Act.
Bulawayo magistrate Mr Golden Muyambo fined the company US$300.
In the event that the fine is not paid, the State will execute the company’s property.
Prosecuting, Mr Arnold Mudekunye told the court that on June 16 at around midday, Covenant
Motor Spares displayed 52 counterfeit GUD oil filters for sale at its shop.
The counterfeit filters, which were recovered from the premises, were valued at US$340.
