Bulawayo Mayor, Councillor David Coltart, has commended newly crowned Miss Tourism Zimbabwe, Zanele Moyo, for her achievement, while calling for renewed focus on revitalising the city’s tourism and cultural economy.

Speaking at a press conference in Bulawayo on Wednesday to mark Moyo’s homecoming, Clr Coltart highlighted the need for innovation in reviving the city’s industrial base and urged stakeholders to leverage tourism as a key driver of growth.

“We need to think outside the box and identify where the low-hanging fruit is, where we can take advantage to inspire change and growth in our city. This low-hanging fruit can be found in tourism. Think about the rich history of this city, places like Khami Ruins, Mzilikazi and Lobengula.

“Think of what this city has in terms of the Natural History Museum of Zimbabwe and the Bulawayo Railway Museum. These are places that we should be using to promote our city and its environment,” said Clr Coltart.
Moyo urged citizens and stakeholders to view tourism as a shared responsibility and a key economic driver.

“Tourism is the heartbeat of our economy and everyone has a role to play in making that heart pulse with life. On that note, I’m proud to announce that the office of Miss Tourism Zimbabwe 2026 is officially open for business.

“To every corporate brand, fashion designer, and creative visionary, if you wish to partner with us to put Zimbabwe back on the global map, our doors are open for effective collaboration. We’re not just looking for sponsors but rather partners that incite results and progress,” said Moyo.

She reflected on her journey to the crown and the responsibility that comes with it. She said she now identifies beyond her personal name, embracing a broader national identity through her role.

“Standing before you as Miss Tourism Zimbabwe, I carry the story of a nation, but I do not stand here alone. I’m here because of a team that believes in the Zimbabwe brand. I want to extend my gratitude to everyone who has stood with us since the beginning of this journey,” said Moyo.

She went on to acknowledge her support system, thanking individuals and teams who contributed to her success, while calling for greater national participation in the tourism sector.

Clr Coltart expressed admiration for her eloquence and leadership, even asking about her educational background, to which she responded that she attended Founders High School.
