Bulawayo pool association introduces cup tourney

Fungai Muderere
THE Bulawayo Pool Association (BPA) has introduced a knockout cup tournament that will feature Premier and Division One clubs ahead of the start of their 2016 season on Saturday.

a?This year we are introducing a BPA Cup knockout contest. It is a first of its kind. We are yet to come out with dates of when it is going to start but the cup contest will see Premier League clubs do battle against clubs that are in Division One. The teams will play 13 frames as opposed to 14 frames as we seek to avoid draw matches. The matches will be played on Sundays and we will soon announce the dates of when the knockout contest will start,a? said BPA publicity officer Farai Nyandoro.

Added Nyandoro: a?BPA Cup knockout tournament is meant to help clubs to expose their players to more competitive matches. We believe this is going to help the associationas clubs that are in the lower league with a lot of competitive exposure.a?

During the Easter holiday the associationsa affiliates will be involved in an Easter Teams Tournament that will be played at various venues in and around the City of Queens and Kings.

a?Throughout the Easter Holiday we will have an Easter Teams Tournament that will be played at various venues in the City. Each club will pay $25 for registration and clubs can register more than one team. A total of seven frames will be played, that is, two doubles and five singles,a? said Nyandoro.

The seasonas draw was conducted last Saturday at Raylton Sports Club and BPA welcomes six new clubs Khami, Enkundleni, Lobengula Sharks, Fungai Dragons, Pumula based Mafikizolo and 13th Avenue.

Khami and Emganwini based Enkundleni are rejoining BPA after a few yearsa sabbatical.
