Bulawayo-based filmmakers have certainly moved out of their comfort zone as they want to make a break in the industry, something that is evidenced by their recent efforts.
This comes after Heart FX Studios, Afrojams Studios, Rodney Films Production, Dream Made Films, Pishavila Communications and Fusion Media Group recently teamed up to produce a series titled Soul Mate.
To ensure that the thriller does not go unnoticed, the production companies are now calling on sponsors to come on board to ensure the film makes it on international streaming services such as Netflix.
It took the production crew four months to work on the series that has eight episodes. The première date is yet to be revealed as the crew is waiting for lockdown measures to be eased.
One of the producers, Tavaka Matunha said through the production, they want to show the power of collaborations.
“We also want to inspire other people in the industry to work together for higher goals and in the process, attract investors and partners.
We worked extremely hard to pull this off,” said Matunha.
Sharing the production’s storyline, Matunha said: “Soul Mate is a story of two lovers who narrate their stories of how they became soul mates. The journey is filled with ups and downs. A lot of things go wrong, people die, some go crazy and some find love. The two soul mates live in two different worlds, but somehow, their lives interconnect.
“The story is intriguing, complex and enticing to watch. It is a rare love story that will keep viewers entertained. The story is also unpredictable making it intriguing.”
He called on interested individuals and companies who want to sponsor the production to come forward so as to make the production a success and revive the city and country’s film sector.
“It was difficult producing a high quality series without sponsors, but we managed to work together as cast and crew despite the challenges. Our aim was to produce something fit for Netflix. We’re now hoping to get buyers for the series as we want to show the world that Zimbabwe is talented.”
