Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road to be widened, upgraded

Sikhumbuzo Moyo Senior Reporter

THE Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road, whose width is presently eight metres, will widen by a further four metres to 12 metres upon completion.

Government awarded tenders to five reputable contractors – Fossil Contracting, Masimba Contracting, Syvern Investments, Bitumen Resources and Tensor Systems to work on the economically critical road that has for long been in a deplorable state.

Each contractor has been allocated a 50km section, with the first stretch beginning at the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo statue in Bulawayo’s city centre.

Construction workers on site told the news crew that each contractor’s scope of work involved widening the road by two metres on each side.

The news crew also observed that in some sections, contractors have completely ripped off the tar with a worker saying they will first level the area, lay concrete before adding tar on top.
