South Africa-based singer and broadcaster Nkululeko “Chunky” Phiri has resurfaced in the South African showbiz scene among a stellar cast of Netflix’s latest series Blood Legacy.

Part of the Blood Legacy cast

Produced by world-class entertainment Gambit Films, Blood Legacy features South Africa’s golden stars including Xolile Tshabalala, Buyile Mdladla, Mike Ndlangamandla, the late Connie Chiume, Treasure Nkosi, Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa, Nandipha Khubone, Thandeka Dawn King as well and Pallance Dladla, among others.

Shot between Cape Town and Durban, Blood Legacy follows the storyline of the mighty rich Ndlovu family that is at odds with each other after the sudden death of their tycoon father. The family’s business empire is threatened to collapse under corruption.

From afar, the family portrays a tight-knit relationship as they fight scandals off the newspapers — stemming from their father’s corruption ties. Determined to clean the family’s legacy, Khanyi Adesina (played by Sxolile Tshabalala) goes to lengths to expose and cut ties with her father’s corrupt connections — which doesn’t sit well with her power-hungry brother Mandla Ndlovu (played by Buyile Mdladla).

Self-absorbed and entitled Mandla starts to plot and scheme to sabotage Khanyi’s attempt at cleaning Spear Industry (family company) and goes as far as partnering with the dangerous A6 Group.

This gripping series shines a spotlight on the underworld and how they can easily infiltrate the corporate world, demanding and killing anyone on their way.

Trapped in his nightmare is the family’s black sheep, Siya Ndlovu portrayed by the talented Mike Mawandla, who must come to terms with his sexuality as he tries to appease his wife and his boyfriend.

Gabisile Ndlovu (played by Enhle Mbali), will do anything to keep their marriage out of curious bystanders and vows to remain married to Siya regardless of his sexuality.

According to a review by Glamour.co.za, every episode leaves one wanting more and eager to find out what happens next.

“The cast includes spectacular local actors, new and old faces that bring the series to life. The characters are able to expose the many issues that our country (South Africa) currently faces, from corruption, gender-based violence, crime and so on.”

Originally created by Mexican writer Diego Gutiérrez and adapted from Monarca, Blood Legacy stands as its powerful force conveying relatable stories that will be equally loved by both local and international audiences.
