Bulawayo’s first Rocktoberfest: A celebration of Rock Music

A BULAWAYO-BASED pastor and musician Mpumelelo Dube, popularly known as HiRev Rocksta, is set to host the first edition of Rocktoberfest in celebration of rock music.

The event will be held on 26 October in Hillside suburb under the theme “A Taste of Culture.”

According to Dube, the event is a significant milestone in promoting rock music and culture in the city.

“We have long hoped to see a rock genre-centered event, and to now see it all coming together is truly a big deal. People love to hear popular genres, and they will get that. But mainly, they will be treated to an alternative sound (rock music),” said Dube.

He said that audiences should expect a lineup of local talent, as the initiative seeks to promote home grown talent.

“Headlining will be local artists like Trimane Williams, DJ Owyxa, Many Faces band and myself among others. To also add flavour, we have roped in comedians and Power Sessions with a cast of poets and diverse artistes,” he said.

Dube also stated that attendees can expect extra activities like a pool for those who need to cool down, snacks for sale, and a braai for meat lovers.

“We hope through this event we can inspire communities to think positively, and feel loved and just simply to enjoy life. We have titled the event, a taste of culture. We aim to exhibit the best of our Zimbabwean culture,” he said.

He said that they are already planning a second edition of Rocktoberfest.

“Plans are already in motion for 2025. We eventually aim to hold it in key resort areas like Matopos, Victoria Falls, Nyanga among others. So far, we are grateful for partnerships and synergies from entities like, Travel Savvy, Barbs, Rockville to mention but a few. We hope to grow this in the fire as well,” said Dube.
