THE Bulawayo United Residents’ Association (Bura) has embarked on a campaign to mobilise the community to raise $200,000 towards construction of a perimeter wall at Mpilo Central Hospital. A ground-breaking ceremony for the initiative will be held at the hospital today with members of the public, churches and the business community expected to attend.
Bura chairperson Winos Dube urged residents to contribute at least $1 each towards the project.
“We have embarked on a campaign to raise $200, 000 through subscriptions to construct a wall around Mpilo Central Hospital. The project is an answer to an expressed need,” said Dube.
“This wall will benefit the Mpilo community, staff, patients and visitors. We are therefore appealing to the community to donate towards the project. $1 from each member of the community is enough to buy a brick and pay for the construction costs. Even a donation of one brick is welcome.”
Dube said today’s launch will be conducted at 11AM at the hospital’s outpatients department. He said the programme will start with a procession from the Large City Hall entrance at 08.30AM and proceed to the hospital.
“A committee to run the campaign is being formed and it is our endeavour to insist on full accountability and transparency to reassure donors,” he said.
