A Chitungwiza man who broke into 10 houses in Mabelreign, Harare stealing some valuables, has been jailed for 18 years. Tichaona Samson pleaded not guilty last week to unlawful entry in aggravated circumstances charges when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Milton Serima.
His accomplice Muchineripi Rambanepasi is still on the run, the court heard.
Samson was convicted by Mr Serima after overwhelming evidence was produced against him.
Prosecutor Leonella Chitanda told the court that on January 20, 2012 around 1am, Brendan Prinsloo (31) of Mabelreign went to bed after securing his house when Samson and his partner paid him a ‘visit’.
The pair, Samson and Rambanepasi climbed over the precast wall.
After managing to get into the yard, they forced open the lounge window and cut the burglar bar to gain entry into the house.
The two stealthily went away after stealing a 42 inch TV, laptop and power pack.
When Prinsloo woke up in the morning, he realised that his TV had been stolen and reported the matter to the police.
The pair proceeded to nine different houses on separate occasions and stole valuables using the same method.
Samson was arrested following intensive police investigations which included finger print matching on the several houses he had broken into.
